We're no stranger to California College of the Arts, having designed three previous MFA shows under the direction of curator Glen Helfand. This year, as opposed to previous years, when the show was at one time and in one place, a new format divides the students into four separate shows at different times and locations. The challenge was that these four shows needed to be treated as hierarchically equal as possible, deemphasizing the parts rather than highlighting them. Our solution was to design a simple typographic identity that could dynamically shift off a given frame, whether it be a page, a wall, or digital space, and be pieced together in various ways.
